University of Alcalá
The University of Alcalá (UAH) is one of the oldest universities in Europe. Its unique model of university city founded in 1499 by Cardinal Cisneros. It has been declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1998. UAH is located in the historic city of Alcalá de Henares, 30 kilometers from Madrid. With four campuses – Historical, Scientific-Technological, Guadalajara and Torrejón- it offers 40 undergraduate degrees, 78 official postgraduate studies and a wide range of continuing education studies, in all branches of knowledge. It presents more than 28,000 students, 2,000 teachers and 800 administrative staff positions. Largely recognized by international rankings like QS World University Ranking y Times Higher Education World University Ranking, the UAH is positioned among the best universities in the world. Currently, UAH belongs to the European University Alliance for Global Health (EUGLOH).
Role: In BRITE-EU, UAH leads the WP4 “Capacity Building on Administrative and Organizational Areas”, targeting the building R&I support capacity in both academic and non-academic sectors through targeted training of administrative, managerial, and technical staff. It will be built based on UAH’s experience in WIDERA projects DOCENHANCE and DOCTALENT4EU.
Ignacio Bravo
Prof. Ignacio Bravo holds a PhD in Electronic Engineering from the University of Alcalá (UAH). He has been a Full Professor since 2018 and has been affiliated with UAH for more than 25 years. His activity at the university is divided among academic management, teaching, and research.
In the field of research, he has led more than 45 research projects funded by European, national, or regional public bodies, as well as by private companies. He is the co-author of over 60 internationally indexed journal articles published in top-ranked JCR journals.
In terms of teaching, he has delivered numerous courses related to electrical and electronic engineering at both undergraduate and master’s levels. He has served as Director of Internationalization at the University of Alcalá since 2019.
Alfredo GARDEL
Prof. Alfredo GARDEL, who holds a PhD in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, is currently Full Professor in the Department of Electronics at the University of Alcala, Spain, with more than 25 years trajectory in research and academia. He has co-authored more than 70 high-impact factor papers and presented his work in more than 120 conferences. His contributions extend up to 70 research projects and 45 private funded contracts. His primary research interests range from computer vision in programable hardware, embedded systems and intelligent systems.
At Alcala University, he has been appointed as Project Coordinator for International Relations (2019-2023), Deputy Director of the Department of Electronics for 3 years, Co-director of the Master's in Industrial Process Automation for 6 academic years (2007-2013), Director of Advantic Research Chair (2012-2015), Member of the Board of Teaching and Research Staff (2010-2014), Member of the PhD in Forensic Sciences and several Research institutes (IUICP, IELAT).
Sandra García
Prof. Sandra García holds a PhD in Chemistry and she is Associate Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Alcalá (UAH).
Her research focuses on the design of advanced nanomaterials for health applications. In this field, she has coordinated more than 15 competitive R&I projects funded by European, national, and regional public agencies, as well as by private companies. Her scientific output includes over 50 peer-reviewed publications in top-ranked JCR journals. In addition, she is co-inventor of 12 patents and co-founder of the Swedish spin-off company Biomedical Bonding AB, reflecting a strong commitment to innovation.
Prof. García has extensive experience in research management and internationalization. She served as Deputy Director of the Doctoral School at UAH (2021–2022) and is currently Director of Research and Head of the European Projects Office (since 2022), where she leads several initiatives funded by the Spanish Research Agency to strengthen international research capacity.
